Battery storage keeps the solar energy you generate during the day and releases it when you actually need it, which for most Australian households is between late afternoon and bedtime. The economics turn on one number that has nothing to do with the battery brand: how much of your consumption currently happens after the sun goes down.
There are two ways to add storage, and the right one depends on what you already have.
Not every battery installation provides blackout backup, and not every battery that does will run your whole house. Backup requires a dedicated changeover arrangement and a nominated set of essential circuits, decided at design time. We will tell you plainly what your chosen configuration will and will not keep running.
Battery installations are governed by AS/NZS 5139 for the safety and installation of battery energy storage systems, alongside AS/NZS 4777 for grid connection. Installers working on battery systems hold accreditation through Solar Accreditation Australia, which has administered installer and designer accreditation since taking the scheme over from the Clean Energy Council in 2024, plus an unrestricted electrical licence for the relevant state or territory. Battery hardware must sit on the Clean Energy Council approved product list to be eligible under the federal and state incentive programs.
Incentives for batteries change more often than incentives for panels, and several programs taper over time or are capped by usable kilowatt hours. We confirm what you are actually eligible for at quote stage rather than advertising a headline figure.
